“Join myself, Kelly Mashburn, my co-host Moon City Pub, and our amazing volunteers for this incredible FIRST TIME EVER event we are putting on for FREE!
This time of the year can often bring a lot of expectation and financial struggles to families who may need a little help. That’s not what the season is about! We should be working together as a community to lift each other up while also lending a helping hand!
My History:
I was raised by a hard-working mother, Karen Allen, who always tried her very best although the holidays were extremely difficult on her. There were times she had to rely on the help of others, there were times she would wrap what she could knowing we (her children) wanted the latest and coolest toys that only other children would be getting under their trees, there were times she would hand-paint used bikes to make them feel special since that’s what she was able to do. What she didn’t know was she always made every holiday so special by how much she tried and cared. What she didn’t know was she taught her children to have understanding. What she didn’t know was she taught her children to appreciate life and the little things.
Commercial Street and Moon City Pub:
I remember when I was young Commercial Street only being where those who were down on their luck could go to seek shelter and get some food in their stomachs. That whole area sure has developed since those days! But there was a short time my family needed that help. To find a business willing to support this idea of people helping each other on Commercial Street holds great significance to me. Thank you, Moon City Pub, for stepping up! I hope this becomes a yearly tradition that eventually all of Commercial Street can collaborate with me on and adopt!
What do you need to participate in the Toy-Swap?
On either date:
Tuesday, December 10th, from 11am – 3pm
Thursday, December 12th, from 3pm – open ended (as things slow down or until close)
****BRING A GENTLY-LOVED TOY, RECEIVE A GENTLY-LOVED TOY****
Rules to swap:
1. We’re looking for the toys your children lightly played with that are in good condition.
(If you don’t have anything that meets those criteria, just bring what you feel you can)
2. Sharing is caring. During the event, if you’re doing a swap, please only bring in a few items. If we feel confident we have enough to give more, we’ll play it by ear.
3. Please clean your items before showing up to the event, we will be further sanitizing each toy upon arrival. (remember to air-dry stuffies, as the dryer can ruin them after a wash)
4. Be sure all electronics are in working condition and include instructions if needed/possible.
5. Toys for all age groups are accepted!
If you wish to only donate any toys (gently-loved or better), wrapping paper (also bows and tape), or batteries, please take donations to our drop-off spots:
Moon City Pub
420 West Commercial St
Springfield, MO
Drop-off donations will end Saturday Dec 7th at 2pm.
We are currently accepting drop-off locations.
Please text 417-655-1555 to add your business to the list.”
