City agrees to raise Jefferson Avenue Footbridge, accepts $2M from BNSF

When the Jefferson Avenue Footbridge reopens to pedestrians in 2026, it might seem taller than people remember.

That’s because it will be.  

With construction on the footbridge slated to begin in April, the Springfield City Council at a special meeting March 18 approved an agreement with BNSF Railway, accepting $2 million to raise the height of the bridge by approximately three feet.
